Casita,16' or 17', no shower unit - California

Looking for a Casita 16' or 17'.

Floorplans without the shower/ bathroom unit.

We are near San Diego, but can drive 2 to 3 hours to LA, and Arizona.

Fair or better condition. We are handy so if repairs or appliances are needed that's just fine. We may consider a smaller unit too.

Thanks!

You don't mean 'SD', which stands for 'Spirit Deluxe', which has a bathroom. You mean 'Spirit Standard', which should be abbreviated 'SS', but never is.

Thanks! I updated the title.

And tuna60, thanks for the Ventura tip. Casita sales rep said to go for 2010 or newer models to avoid wood in the floor, but I can check.

That sounds a bit misleading. As far as I know all Casitas use wood for structural strength in the deck. I suppose 2010 is the year they started laying fiberglass over the top of the wood so that it's fully encapsulated.

Just know it's still in there and can be compromised if water gets in through a crack, screw hole, table mount, plumbing cut... And yes, I have read reports of owners with encapsulated floors discovering soft spots. Not common but possible, so inspect closely.

There's a 2019 Liberty Standard listed in Tucson, AZ. Price was recently reduced.

Thanks, I really appreciate your post. I need to have a friend check one for sale. What would you recommend as a good way to check the floor given wood can rot, but may be hard to detect?

I’d check a couple of things. One, see if there’s any sponginess as you walk around on every inch of the exposed floor. Be somewhat skeptical of brand new finish flooring, especially thick vinyl or laminate that can mask softness. Two, look for stains, mildew, musty odors, and other indications of leaks inside all the lower benches and cabinets where the floor is exposed.

Finding a unit that’s spent all its life in the Southwest minimizes the likelihood of issues, but older units may have changed hands (and zip codes) numerous times. A look at the undercarriage can give clues. Good overall maintenance in other areas of the trailer is a promising sign they likely took care of leaks as well.

If you are willing to consider having a bathroom (which you might decide is well worth the convenience), we have a 2015 SD in excellent condition with many upgrades and added accessories. $24K in Phoenix.

My 2003 Casita SD has a fully encapsulated floor same as all the newer Casita's. And yes they all have wood sandwiched in them so not sure what the Casita sales rep was talking about.

Yes, I always wonder about sales reps and their knowledge or honesty. Thanks for your info as it opens up more earlier model years to consider.
