The Olive Pit in Winter
|
We left Victoria BC on Jan 21 at the end of a week of snow and ice. It was supposed to warm up... our first night in Sequim Washington the temperature dropped to -6c. We were cozy in the Olive Pit (1975 boler) with help of electric hook-up and a tiny heater.
In the morning we let the roads thaw and headed to Olympia where we got caught in another snow storm. The weather warmed up by the time we got to Oregon so we boondocked in a rest-stop without heat.
There was snow on the sides of the road and in big drifts past Ashland and into northern California.
It wasn't until we got to Redding that it was warm enough to take off the long underwear.
The rest of our four week adventure took us to Joshua Tree National Park, Quartzsite, Phoeniz, Tuscon, Tombstone, White Sands, Los Cruces, Almaogordo, Roswell, Carlsbad Caverns, El Paso, Yuma, San Diego, and back through Sonoma before making the run home.
The snow hit us again - now February 20 - as we tried to cross the mountain pass from California into Oregon. We were turned back and had to spend the snowy night in Yreka before taking on the pass the next day when the snow had melted. Once again we were cozy in the Olive Pit with the help of the electric heater. |
