It is like a shower faucet, and it operates by pulling up on the center knob. I left the length of hose as it came (sold separately) and routed it over/around the window frame so as to have enough length to wash our hair in the sink, or larger pots/pans, or open the window and pass it through for an outside shower. I purchased the faucet at our local "Do It Best" hardware store. I added the water saving device that screwed onto or in place of the screened aerator.
