I posted to this thread a couple days ago but now see that my post has disappeared... I know in the past moderators have edited my messages... Is it common for moderators to delete messages outright or was there just some sort of system hiccup?

I checked all the posts in my name and the post in question does not appear there either ...

The topic started to degenerate somewhat and I suspect the moderators decided to remove the offending posts. Yours might have been fine but it was probably in the middle of the doubtful part and it and got caught up in it all. But thats just my theory.

Steve is correct. The topic started to degenerate and was moving completely off topic. The entire topic was pared and only some complete postings were left. In some cases, even if a particular post was perfectly okay, to leave it would have been confusing as it was commenting on something within a posting that was deleted.

Thanks Steve, your explanation was perfecto! https://www.fiberglassrv.com/board/st...default/94.gif

Thanks for the explanations. https://www.fiberglassrv.com/board/st...default/94.gif

It can be very confusing when things change, apparently by magic, but those changes are important to the operation of a moderated forum.

Is there a feature in IPB which can generate a message to the authors of posts which are deleted (or edited) by a moderator? https://www.fiberglassrv.com/board/st...efault/ask.gif I mean something relatively automatic, which could perhaps prompt for a comment to attach, but would not require the moderator to do more work in addition to everything they're already doing. If not, that might be a good feature to suggest to Invision for a possible future release.

That feature is not available.

PS: We do NOT like to delete posts.
