Was the Nomad Molded Fiberglass?
 

Whether or not it was - its still a neat trailer for 1962.

Excellent post - that's stunning (if maybe drifting a little off topic...). I love the way the trailer base also floats and is shown being towed by the boat.

That's cool. It would be neat to see a picture of the tent-trailer set up.

The ebay listing does say it is fiberglass.

I wonder if this is where the concept of the trailor boat came from?

I wonder if one could put an air conditioner on the roof of one of these?

Talk about your "dinghy towing." Seller is in Hamilton, Roy; you should buy it! Whoever does can count on a very fast onset of the dreaded two-inch-itis.

I noticed that Jack, I already did a reverse lookup on the phone. It was cellular.

With a trailer that size, I could separate the 1/2's, put each on their side on a moving dolly and actually be able to get a trailer between the houses into the back yard. If I have enough room for a wheel barrow, I should be able to have enough room for one of these.

I hope Carol Ann is not reading this. I'll be out in the dog house, or is that the dog in the outhouse.
She does not want to be polytrailerous.

Look on the bright side, Roy. You can sleep in this in the back yard.

Talk to her about saving it, and getting it to "flip", finding a good home for it.

Bring it home with her "agreement" then see how things develop. :D

Amazingly creative and pretty versatile. But in the end it's a pop-up tent trailer... not for me.

I can hear it now:
You have not finished the first one, barely started the second and now you want a third?

I looked at the ad copy wherein I discovered that the true ingenuity is in making two barely adequate horse troughs appear capable of providing shelter, transportation, and recreational fulfillment to a family of three. Ya gotta believe!?

I love the pictures in the original advertising. The "real" picture of the tent part set up doesn't quite live up to the advertising picture though! I like how you can take part of the tent with you on the boat for a sunshade. I hope someone rescues this and gives it a good home.

My dad and some of his friends had a small design company called Product Design in North Atlanta back in the early 1960's. It was a few Lockheed engineers, a designer from Scripto and a couple of other guys. They invented this boat camper and sold the design to Nomad. I helped lay the fiberglass in the molds for the prototypes when I was 9 years old. I think I still have some of the original design sketches for this trailer. I remember testing it out at the Lockheed Longhollow property on Lake Lanier.

I have two of these trailers, we use one all the time behind our 1935 Ford Phaeton. Great little trailer
Were going to go into production building some. Going to take a mold off of one of mine. hope we get interest to spread these fun little trailers around the world. Perfect for a hot rod, classic car or compact car too

It's great that the pics were saved off that ebay auction, they were good ones and the auction (with its pics) is of course long gone.

Rats, and I thought that this thread was going to be about the "Real" fiberglass Nomad, the "Waldorf Nomad" aka the Corvette Nomad first shown at the Motorama at the Waldorf Hotel in NY in 1954.

That Nomad design became the Chevrolet Nomad and Pontiac Safari of 1955-1957, no doubt the most beautiful production wagons ever built, as well as a stunning TV occasionally seen towing an Airstream Bambi near San Francisco in the late 50's.

The Waldorf Nomad has disappeared, but several clones of it have surfaced, both based on 53-55 Corvettes as well as at least one based on a full size 1955 Nomad.
