Make columbus coach - van companion
Model 17' liberty
Length 17'
Packages base
History purchased 8-11 just west of columbus, ks
in need of a complete rebuild, but body and chassis good. had just had a new 3500lb dexter axle and springs installed
hear say from the locals. columbus coach works of columbus, ks decided to add a trailer to their van conversion line thus "van companion" (liberty, was the floor plan name). the south east corner of kansas was already home to several stick built trailers (nuwa hitchhiker, huntsman, dreamer, allstar, kustom kamper, so the knowledge and parts suppliers were already there. the shell was purchased from amerigo in elkhart, indiana, the frame with square tube sewer hose bumper from youngs welding, same as nuwa, the windows from hehr, same as nuwa, the before its time, fiberglass lp bottle storage cover like the current bigfoot and front window rock guard from chanute, ks fiberglass, the cabinets like huntsman and kustom kamper, a stick built aluminum framed trailer door with self storing screen door by sailor, the continental tire cover from the conversion vans. all the interior wood framing came from the stick built trailer and van conversion industry knowledge in the area. the van conversion industry gave way to the new suv market so columbus coach went out of business in the early 90's again none of this can be proven just what i have been told by locals
Interior
original interior was totally removed down to the shell and replaced with new

Exterior
the shell framing and floor was replaced, the roof had mini trusses built to keep the arch up at the ac and vent. the entire inside of the shell was sprayed with closed cell foam and trimmed flush and smooth to framing to mount wall board. added a lot of strength to the outer shell and should keep the shell from sweating when heating or cooling the cabin

Customization
new interior, all real red oak cabinets, doors, and drawer faces (assembled inside the shell), wooden drawers not plastic and pergo flooring. the ceiling and walls have plywood wall board panels installed like stick built trailers with vynal wall paper covering on them, not carpet or vynal glued on the shell, real homey feeling, easy to clean and quiet. the table was made out of hundreds of scrap pieces in the shop glued together and epoxed over, butcher block look

Renovations
trailer had porta potti and no shower so installed permanent toilet and holding tank. built stainless steel shower pan and installed fiberglass shower wall liner for wet bath. enlarged refer and closet cabinet, moved kitchen to front corner, sink and microwave only, added another closet and chest of drawers where kitchen was. installed new gas-electric refer and fantastic roof vent

Tow Vehicle
this trailer is being restored so it can be used to come and go from our winter park model trailer in southern texas usually 2 weeks down and 2 weeks back, the reason for the closet size increase. it will be pulled by an s10 blazer with 4.3 engine rated at 6k towing capacity
