Wagon Master heater temp control doesn't shut off burner.

My Wagon Master furnace had the temperature control sensor mounted below the furnace at the floor causing the burner to run continuously.
This must be a common problem with gravity furnaces...

I think the temp sensor is supposed to be up beside the flame box as in a partial photo that I saw showed the temp sensor wire or tube heading toward the top not...

My furnace burner wont shut down when the ambient temperature gets up to the selected number on the dial. I heated the copper tube (below the heater) that is the temperature sensor to 90 degrees...
