You can remove closets and such by drilling out the rivets. Keep in mind that the closet next to the door provides structural support. You don't want to remove that one.

I just removed the vent from my '77 Scamp. I'm replacing it with a Heng's 14" one. They're all over Ebay for about 30-40 bucks, and optionally have a 12v fan in them. I did have to cut a bigger hole.
