I agree with Donna. Adding a silicone around the edge guarantees you'll want to find a good way to remove it in a year or two--with no added benefit. Stay with a good butyl only.

Although they worked for many years, I opted to change all the pop rivet/acorn nut combos for Stainless Steel screws, acorn nuts, and a flange washer as pictured. A bit of locktite helps.
