I like it. We don't use our on board tank because we mostly camp in Provincial Parks and there are no direct hook-ups at sites. We just use water jugs we leave outside. But this is a great idea.

very nice looking modifications and very clever and inventive. Looks like you have some kind of locking mechanism to keep the cupboard doors shut, could you share those/or link?
thanks

I'm using the original Boler cupboard hardware everywhere except below the sink. There I'm using the pinch roller type commonly available anywhere.

Finally decided to tackle a rectangular bulge under the lower body-side hinge. Found a wet and rusted 1 1/4 x 8" steel insert. Removed it and the soiled FG. Built the area back up with new FG leaving the metal out. In stead I placed some 1/4" square galvanized screen on the inside and covered it with a layer of FG to reinforce the area.
In the process I found two leaks inside the front corners which I isolated to the belly band. After removing the band I ran a mini grinder disk along the seam and filled the seam with some FG chop in epoxy. Leak stopped.
I am considering leaving the aluminum band off and finishing the edge. Have to live with the idea for a while.

The Belly Band
Well, we've removed and redressed the belly seam leaving the aluminum 'C' channel off. Tried my hand at pin stripping.
This is the result...
We are liking it!

I copied the fan idea from someone else. We had an original range hood discharging out the side. It sounded like a jet plane taking off. We removed it but wanted something to keep air moving when it's raining out and our rain sensing Fantastic Fan wouldn't work (I've since then also added a kill switch to that sensor).
These two computer fans are very quiet and ensure a cross breeze.
I added a small lever, on the side next to the on/off, to mechanically open the vent damper since the fan are not noted for having a lot of push.
|
Like this, the original is so loud. Small light filter in front of fans for grease fumes and perfect for our 4 burner stove top. What size fans and could you show a picture of the vent damper lever setup? This is one to copy.
We do not use the stovetop much and the oven less. When it rains great to have.

I used a couple of 3-1/2" 12volt fans mounted as shown.
The mechanism for opening and holding the discharge cover open is better shown than described.
I hope this is clear.

My latest updates involved adding a second access to the left side (our '79 came with one on the right side). This required that I do something about the gravity feed port, which I never use, and that I move the city water connection.
I relocated the city water in line with my other connections as shown in the picture. I took out the gravity fill port and the built in tank.
This required that I fill in one of the holes to accommodate the new access door before cutting that opening.

More a repair than a mod, I found a rectangular bulging under the door hinges on the body side. I repaired the lower hinge earlier and the upper one this week.
What I found was that Boler had reinforced the hinge locations with a strip of steel sandwiched between FG. Over the years, water seeped in to rust the steel. Rusted steel grows (7:1) causing the FG to bulge.
Because the upper was not a severe as the bottom I only removed the outside layer of FG to expose the steel. I removed and replaced the steel with a strip of stainless steel, roughed up and with added holes for better adhesion and re-applied layers of FG.
Refinished and viola!
The second picture represents the finished item with the old steel strip for reference.

Nice work! Always love to see the different ways people redo their trailers and resolve so many of the same concerns.
Looks fantastic, happy travels!

I want to update the rims on my Boler. Presently I have, I think, the original (rusting) rims with SS Beauty Rings and Hub cap. I'd like to go to alloy rims. Anyone had experience or insights so as to avoid pitfalls if any?

I installed these before our Yukon trip 2 years ago. Got them on sale for 150 each. No complaints so far. Planning on heading to Maritimes for the month of September, so time will tell.
Cheers

Thanks for your reply, JMP. I looked at those--non-in stock. I settled for these:

My latest project is to correct a couple of issues on the rear overhead closet.
Two things, it was factory installed on an angle, with the left side being higher than the right affecting the curtains, and the middle fake door was necessary to hide a hole cut for a radio insert or some such thing.
I've taken the closet down to patch the hole and then cut larger openings for easier access into the closet and than building larger doors to suit.
I should be able to sleep better now not having to look up and see the defective installation. Pictures coming when completed...
