Trillium 1980 furnace exhaust

Hello knowledgeable community!
Here is my question, my Trillium has the furnace under the dīnette in one of the benches, therefore the exhaust to that furnace is in a place we don’t see often. The cover up is quite...odd...and ugly! First question: what do you guys have been instead of what I have, and second, would it be paintable if it isn’t replaceable? Thanks!
Sorry picture isn’t all that clear, but it is a kind of «*mesh/screen*» made of metal that covers the vent.

Typically the mesh is just a screen to keep out bugs. Here in the SE USA, mud daubers.

That furnace does not look original to that era Trillium.

I searched the forum and did see other trilliums from 1980 and 1981 with the same furnace as mine , in the same location. It’s just the screen over the exhaust is different and seems probably like you mentioned l to keep critters out...

When gravity furnaces were outlawed, Trillium went with forced air furnaces under the dinette seats. I have not seen that exhaust fitting before. Where does your furnace get combustion air from?

If you do paint it, use high heat paint.

Exactly like my 1979 4500. Same location and same outlet.

You can get those exhaust screens online, too. Painting may reduce the air flow if several holes are painted in.
