The Scamp 19 uses a proprietary hitch. It is neither a 5th Wheel nor a gooseneck. It uses a set-up similar to a 5th wheel hitch but instead of having a flat plate in the top it has a 2-inch ball and the Scamp has a coupler. It is sort of a cross between a 5th wheel and a gooseneck.
Distance between the ball and the corners of the rear bumper is critical. Call Scamp to get the measurement. Then go to a welding shop rather than an RV dealer, or bite the bullet and buy the hitch from Scamp. To get the clearance needed, it may have to be installed slightly behind the rear
axle. This is where the welding shop comes into play. They can make custom brackets that will mount to the frame. Being behind the
axle slightly will not result in handling problems because the tongue/pin
weight of the Scamp is not heavy enough to lift the front wheels of the ground. If you want to discuss this, PM me with a phone number and a good time to call.
