1984 BIGFOOT B17 Restoration

Hey Martin, I've got a question in case you're checking in here (or for anyone else who might know).

I opened the little access hatch between the oven and fridge in my Bigfoot, and saw this laying there. I assume it's from the back of the oven.



So a couple questions...do you still have your oven? How does this piece attach? I'd like to know if I need to pull my oven and reinstall this thing for it be safe, or if I can by without it.

If it seems essential, any advice on taking out the oven? I remember that it's not attached except by the propane. Is the only propane connection the one under the stovetop, where you access the stovetop burners? Or is there a second connection for the oven, hidden somewhere? I doubt it but I was surprised at the size of the lines going down toward the oven from the stovetop (really small).

Well I got into project mode and took care of it. For anyone else who may check in, my oven was screwed into the countertop with 4 screws.

I pulled out the oven and the metal sheet was a heat shield that covered the oven vent in the back. I didn't seem to add much...maybe an inch or so of extra heat deflection away from the countertop.

Aside from filling my propane tanks then checking for leaks where I had to disconnect the gas line, I've got it all back together.

Wow, you have got a lot done on your trailer.
My remodel has taken a back seat. I was asked to stop my reno as it would take me another year or more to complete. My husband wants to camp next summer and his health is not very good, so my 17ft Bigfoot is up for sale. Its demo'd on the inside and comes with all the materials to make a custom trailer.

I am enjoying watching your journey of remodeling your trailer and will continue to do so.

Does anyone know what the original intention was for the kitchen counter bump-up? Is it functional for the fridge in some way, or merely cosmetic for countertop presentation?

I believe that is installed before the top and bottom halves are joined. The other alterative is to cut it in pieces. why did you need to remove it ?
Have you contacted the factory for any suggestions ?

The shower was not removed. It appears to be fine. I am replacing the light. It's also the needed supply of 12V electricity for the replacement 2-spd. fan going in where the smaller opening was simply a vent. I've made a lattice work of clear spruce for the shower stand on the floor. Lastly, all the rusted electro-plated screws holding the mid molding will be replaced with stainless steel screws.
