Tricia the trillium 1300

Hi my name is Mark, my partner Barb and I just bought our first fgrv a 1973 trillium 1300 we have dubbed Trixie. She has been lovingly restored and we look forgot sharing all our experiences with the group and learning all about our new little girl from the experts on this site!
Thanks!

Thumbs up

I put some photos in an album, still trying to figure out how to put them directly into threads.....I’m trying the “attachments” option below. See if this works.

Just noticed my thread got “spellchecked” to Tricia instead of Trixie...whoops.. oh well! The previous owner did off frame full restoration belly and all. He has wired up some deep cycles with an AC charging/solar panel setup, can be off grid for days...
Paint job done in an auto shop looks great. Now I have to decide if I should clear coat it for protection, I would hate to see it get chipped from driving....

Marv looks great, looks like you have maintained much of its original features. I love that awning, is it on a rail? Was it original equipment?

Trillium 1300

The Dometic Awning is on a rail and the screening is custom with velcro. Having an outdoor space is great especially for the size of the Trailer. Plugged in electric heater works great. Lived in Vancouver's coal harbour on a 40 foot boat which had more room than the Trillium...what a view. Great camping at Harrison Lake. Have you been there?

Not yet, we just moved to the island from Ontario last year and with the Covid haven’t had a chance to explore too much yet...hence Trixie! Been up to telegraph cove and plan to explore around Campbell River next...

Mark, your Tricia is beautiful and just pristine!
I don’t know much about auto paint, but I’d think in the long run, you’d be glad you added the gel coat to keep her looking like that.

Manual

Hi Mark from Comox, My name is Steve from Victoria. My wife and I just bought a 1975 Trillium 1300. Used it once so far and love not having to sleep on the ground anymore! Anyway, by chance do you have a manual for your camper as it looks very similar?. If so I would love to pay you for a copy or if you know anyone who may have one the same goes. I look forward to having ours look as nice as yours. 250-598-7381

Awesome! I too recently purchased a 1979 1300 in pretty good shape. I still need to do a systems check and some modifications but it's a good base to start from.

Newbie

I’ve been reading messages for quite awhile, but had to reply to this one.
(2nd attempt)
Mark & Barb I was born in Comox and now live in Ontario.
And Steve, I went to Vic High and UVic. I’m feeling rather envious of you on the west coast with winter approaching here.

Bella is my 1978 Trillium, I’ve done some interior work, but her outside looks nothing like Trixies! I would consider a coating with that paint job, Bella has a fair amount of rock chips.

The original fridge is still in Bella but does not work. What make/model do you have and how is it run?
I also have the original awning, not in great shape but hopefully useable next year.

In beautiful Georgian Bay

Hey there Steveo1,

Have you checked the FGRV document center for manuals? Try clicking “more” in the upper right corner of this page, then documents/trailer brand manufacturer/ trillium. Not absolutely sure that’s the route, but close. I found lots there that corresponded to my ‘79 4500. Might have documents you seek. Good luck!

Also to OP... Trixie looks great.

Mark, you have quite an amazing Trillium. In 1973 Trillium did not offer a front dinette. The one in your trailer must have been installed by the PO. It almost looks like they removed the fibreglass from another Trillium and installed it in yours. Are there any structures inside the seats that would indicate it was handmade? They hung the table from the window frame, avoiding putting any unnecessary holes in the shell. This is what Trillium did as well, but with a fibreglass back splash that went down to the seats.

I have some comments about your furnace as well. I am a big fan of “gravity” furnaces. That is, no fan, or electrical requirements. It is totally gas powered. This particular model has enough space around the gas valve to be able to change it, without needing to pull the furnace. This is important, because frequently the telescoping exhaust/intake assembly will have fused due to rust. It is probably not possible to remove it now, without destroying it. This furnace has very few things to go wrong. The thermocouple may need to be changed, or the pilot light may need attention. The killer is when the gas valve quits. Newer versions of the Duo-Therm furnaces don’t have enough room around the gas valve to spin it. This makes it very difficult to change the valve. The condition of the furnace grate is also worth mentioning. I have one of those grates which is missing about 25% of the louvers on the front. The design is kind of flimsy. Your looks perfect.

Is that a 12VDC electric fridge? What I really like about it is that it doesn’t mess up the road side Trillium logo, like a propane fridge would, another very rare feature. Tom Young was selling chrome like stickers that fit the logo, minus the stem on the logo. Trillium eventually dropped the stem. One on either side would look nice.

If this was my trailer, there are only three things I would consider changing. One is the tail lights. The ones on you trailer are after market, (Princes Auto? LED?). You can get the original Bargman lights from Paul Neumeister: Fibreglass RV Parts, Repairs, and Service by Paul Neumeister. If your existing tail lights are LED, it would be worthwhile to remove the guts and put them in the Bargman lights from Paul. https://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/...2-a-52356.html Note that there is a ridge in the middle of the Bargman back plate. You will need some extra washers to act as standoffs where two of the three screws go through the parts without the ridge.

The second thing I would add is a 14” powered vent fan. I like the MaxxAir 5301, (four speed, manual open): https://www.amazon.ca/Maxx-Air-00053.../dp/B016MWZH0M. You can get a PWM for speed control: https://www.amazon.ca/Controller-Reg...745064&sr=8-48. I would probably add a thermostat too. The optioinal motor to open and close seems redundant; since the fan is designed operate when it is raining. This is not a small job on a trailer with a 9” vent. The hole has to be cut larger to make it fit. I would also recommend some pultruded square tube to frame in the hole from the outside. This allows the fan, and its controls to be flush with the celling, or a bit recessed, depending on the size of the square tube: https://www.grainger.ca/en/category/...emplate=Visual

Lastly, I would consider enough solar, (either on the roof, or as a suitcase) to run the fridge.

Boy, am I ever wordy.

Patty, The fridge is a marine 12v fairly new, I’ll have to check for the make. Runs off the 2 batteries in the tongue box. Good for about 3 days with fully charged batteries, have solar panel and shore power hookups as well...

Enjoy Georgian bay!
We moved to Comox from Ontario (Lakefield) last year...
