Modern replacement for original Boler 1700 furnace

Hi friends. I know this is a well-documented subject but most posts are quite old. Has anyone replaced the furnace on their boler 1700 with a new furnace? If so what did you go with and how was the fit? Any required mods? What's the battery drain? And how noisy is the fan.

I got rid of the original furnace and put an 120v electric space heater in it's place. I also added a 12v 5kw diesel heater under the rear bench with 4 outlets. 2 under the rear bench, 1 blowing into the dinette and 1 in the wet bath. 5kw is overkill, if you choose the diesel heater go a 2 kw.

I skipped the factory-installed furnace option entirely on my Casita - Installed a Camco 3,000 BTU catalytic heater instead.

It doesn't have a blower - So it doesn't make any noise or drain the battery while it's running.

3,000 BTUs might not seem like much, but it runs continuously - So it puts out the same amount of heat as a 12,000 BTU furnace that runs 25% of the time.

Typically, the 1,500 BTU "low" heat setting is all I need.

DH put a propex HS2800 in our boler 17. I think it it's fairly quiet, definitely louder outside than in. I'm a sound sleeper and it doesn't bother me at all. DH is a a lighter sleeper and turns to a cooler temperature at bedtime so it doesn't cycle on and off as much as he is falling asleep.

I think it's nice and quiet during the day.

I went with the Propex (externally mounted). I love it. Reclaimed additional storage where the original furnace used to be.

Biker Furnace

The original heater in the early Bolers did not have fans and worked on gravity feed. They were slow to heat and didn’t reach all areas of the trailer in cold weather. I installed 2 muffin fans under the furnace and it then worked like any fan fed furnace. A muffin fan for those not familiar is a fan from a computer. Very quite and draw minimal amps
