I am the new owner of a 1979 16ft Bigfoot.
It is in good condition and wondering what mods others have done to improve the comfort and etc...
I am looking for some ideas ! the interior looks to be original.

I looked at this Bigfoot while I was shopping for my trailer. The guy was a welder and added a rock guard and a steel plate guard around his sewage hose connections. I wasn't a huge fan of the rock guard, but protecting his underbelly like that was super cool.

Rather than a bunch of pictures, I'll list a lot of my 'convenience' mods
Replaced junk Magnatek 6335 Converter with Progressive Dynamics PD9260.
Installed Charging Monitor pendant for above.
Installed Xantrex Link 20 Battery Monitor. (No longer available)
Installed auto-switch propane switch.
Installed flashing light monitor for propane switch. (No longer available)
Installed Dinosaur P-911 control board for Dometic RM-2607 Fridge
Replaced complete fridge absorption unit due to failure.
Installed BAL crank down stabilizers for all 4 corners.
Installed 5" plastic fence post under front for stinky slinky.
Installed battery sparker for all 4 stove burners.
Installed 2nd battery under dinette seat by door.
Using 2 quality AGM size 27 batteries.
Installed microwave under cabinet to right of sink.
Installed electric power jack.
Replaced all inside lights with LED fixtures.
Replaced tail lights with Bargeman LED fixtures.
Installed Hott Rod in water heater for electric heating.
Installed auto-reigniter for water heater (No longer available)
Installed Window Maxx-Air Vents on 3 windows (4th window blocked by awning post - no longer available).
Replaced shower head with Ecocamel Jetstorm.
Replaced twin pipe mounts for front dinette with fold-down mount.
Replaced all cushions with Sunbrella on marine foam Custom mades.
Replaced brakes with Dexter Nev'R'Adjust brakes.
Installed aluminum Truck Box on rear bumper for Honda EU2000i Generator.
Converted Honda Genny to propane.
Installed Heater Coil in roof 13.5KBTU AC.
Installed Quick-Start mod in Briskaire AC (Doesn't work with Honda Genny).
Modified propane and battery cover to sit better.
Also, Regular Maintenance items as needed - tires, batteries, etc.
These are the mods that come to mind. There may be more, but, if you search the forum by my name, you'll find many of my mods, some with pictures. These were done over a period of about 13 years since I bought the trailer.

not many of my mods apply (I have a CB model)...but you must have one of those "kiddie bed/overhead storage deals".....this is what I did with mine (the more ideas the better)

pic1....made a simple divider for the space that creates a his and hers "dresser"...plus a linen "closet" (the divider thing is freestanding and held there by two screws)

pic2-3...turned doors upside down, got rid of the spring closures, added cargo netting on the back

pic4...because the right latch is now inside the "linen closet" I had to rig a spring to it and have a trip line to work it....I don't use/operate the left latch

you have a very old trailer there....79...pretty close to first year of production I bet....you're lucky that somebody obviously took very good care of it at some point/time as the exterior looks better than most ten years older than that....the custom graphics sort of says that it was well "loved" by somebody... (that's the kind of person you want to buy from...wish I had)

I got rid of my converter and only have a charger now...as I said not many of my mods apply but you can click on my registry (below my name and details) to see a bunch of them

No photos, but here is a simple idea. We like to take mid afternoon naps. The blinds help darken the interior but too much light comes through the window in the door. Our solution was to mount binder clips above the door to hold a towel down over the window. There are 4 screws in the trim over the inside of the door. Loosen them and then tighten them on one side of the wire in the clip. Works great.

I added task lighting for reading at the dinette, one under each side storage cabinet. Also a pair above the closet that shine over the head and reflect off the bathroom door mirror. These help the wife with makeup. I found these on eBay in a bronze finish (not chrome like the link).

I found this picture in my "archives"....for a wider bed at the front....as I reacall the two pieces (leg and extra platform) folded together and were stored under gaucho cushions....gaucho cushions used for extension..very good solution I thought

Today was mod #1 ! The woman was saying how we have to climb over each other to get up in the night ! This is what I came up with : 25.3/8 by 64'' now the total length is 71''
Not sure if I will have to add a length at the bottom. This mod turns sleeping on the width of the trailer to length of trailer.

this might fall in the category of "fools seldom disagree"

in my trailer..."when there was two"....I did the same sort of thing... sleeping north/south instead of east/west...but at the other end (because mine's a CB model)

I know it will work very well for you....71-72" long might seem be a little short to some people reading this... but the SIX FEET wide at the head end (for the first 40") more than makes up for that in actual use....trust me!

Just back from an output three weeks and very comfortable and functional, now I have a pretty big bed and I keep the table open for the morning
The gaucho in close position is very comfy and take just more space but very acceptable
And the bathroom is accessible at night

It is a great mod for me

The gaucho mod that Yvon did is super. But, remember that John's bathroom door is in a different location than Yvon's. Might still work if shape is altered.

Mod #2 for the little BigFoot.
I had a piece of shelving then bought another for the area above the sectional couch.
Shelves are 12'' wide.
How we think we will use it is when we are staying for more than one night we pack up the bedding and store it on the white shelves unless we can store it in the storage compartments.
The new improved bed is proving to be very comfortable.
