Cog wheel replacement? Surfside

Hello everyone,

I'm now installing the windows in my surfside and noticed one of the windows doesn't close properly. After taking it apart, the cog 'half' wheel is stripped I one portion effectively not allowing it to close nice and tight.

Anyone come across this and have any idea where I could order this part or will I be duct taping this closed on road trips?

Do you mean the "window operator", the little gearbox part that cranks out the window. There are a few different types. Vintage trailer supply in Vermont has some. I found one at an Ace hardware store that I made work on a vintage camper window

Yes, I believe that's what I'm looking for. I'll attach another couple of pics of the actual cog. I'll give your place a call tomorrow morning. Thanks for the help!

James, I don't have those but it looks like it's a circle cog. Any chance of rotating it 180* so that you have good teeth in the closed position for a tight fit for travel? Kind of a temporary fix until you can find a new wheel.

Look at the window operator pictures on Vintage Trailer Supply website. The "cog wheel" on those is most likely enclosed and not visible. Perhaps you can adapt one to work on your window. May have to make a spacer or shim

I replaced all the cranks in my 1977 Surfside with new ones which came from the original window manufacturer Berdick Windows in Winkler Manitoba , the cost was about $7 each , hard to install but sure work great.

Thanks dave- i was thinking that but it's actually only 'cogged' on just over half the wheel. The full reno isn't quite done yet so I have some time to order one in before use.

They have a few of these left at the place quoted above...two arriving in a few days....thanks Dave and everyone else for your help!

So berdict windows has the originals for 11 bucks CAD. Vintage trailer supply has the replacement for 8 bucks...either will work fine depending on where you live. Ordered mine today!
