We started off years ago with a 16
scamp. We later downsized to a 13 foot. Very happy with the 13 as it is really easy to deal with pulling, etc. Problem is both campers had the same bed. I am tall 6 2 my wife is 5 6 and the bed is just not big enough. Also dont like changing the bed into a table, big hassle. So I came up with a bed extension that literally take less the one minute to set up and same time to take down and nothing to remove from the camper. I removed the table and used 3/4 marine ply piece for the bed and extension. Sanded nice and triple coated the wood for smoothness. Added aluminum channel for the slide out extension that comes close to the bottom table with a bit so it does not bind. The extension pulls out with ease. Also the extension is the same length as the table 45 and can pull out as far as 45 but 24 is enough. Leaving 20 still in channel for much support. The cushion we use extends the bed 24 and the width is 36 between the heater/fridge side to the other cabinet side. I made the cushion from the top bunk bed, to get the material the same. Also the cushion has a 24x36 plywood in it that was from the same bunk bed ply inside. The plywood spans the extra little space next to the cabinet where there is no slide out under. The legs are pontoon table supports that go on and off like quick. These are the surfit (ITC) that you can remove the cap on either end by placing the end in boiling water then they come off, to cut the legs the proper length, then replace and glue cap back on. Then a extra memory foam covered top to makeup the extra space and feel of the memory foam on the bed (pictured in white covered). We can quickly extend the bed more then the 24 by just adding a small rolled up blanket between. Now the bed is really big for me and my wife. Are legs go on the extension. You can crawl over the extension to get out if needed and will hold any
weight. Now I am going to make a front dinette with lots of room to get in. When the extension is out 24 you can still Open the
fridge and have moving around room to cook etc.
