Boler bunk base

Hey Folks. I'm attempting to put the bunk beds back in our 1974 boler. I've seen a few how-to videos about getting/making new poles and bases, but nothing about (a.) how the bunk base attaches to the wall and (b) how to cut a new base to the right size.

I just got off the phone with a nearby trailer shop that specializes in doing boler modification and we're probably looking at $500 if we get them to do it. I'm only somewhat handy and I have limited tools and space. But I'm keen to hear if you've attempted this.

The bunk bed attaches to a piece of wood via hinges. The piece of wood is fiberglassed to the shell under the front window. I used heavy duty stainless steal door hinges for mine and 3/4" plywood for the bed. The factory bed was 1/4" plywood with light duty steel hardware.

The only trick is cutting the sides of the plywood bed and installing hinges so it flexes with the curve of the front shell.

I am sure there is a script with details and schematics somewhere on this web site.

If you can do it yourself, do it yourself. You will only fall deeper in love with your camper since you put your own sweat into it.

Can you post a picture of what you have to start with? As Mark said, a piece of wood fiberglassed into the wall is where the hinges attach. Then the posts go into the lower bunk in what looked to me like the hardware you would mount a closet rod into. For how the top bunk "attached" to the pole, mine just had a couple screws that went into a loop that was perpendicular and welded onto the pole. I always thought this was a bit sketchy. I'm sure something better could be made that might incorporate a railing so the top bunk occupant doesn't bonk when they fall out!

I'm in Calgary. Sorry for the delay in replying. We went camping spur of the moment. I think we're going to pay to have it done professionally. But thanks for the input everyone.
