Smile Newbie from Washington: Fiber Stream 1983

Hello All 👋🏽
I’m joining and writing on behalf of myself (Rachelle) and my mom (Corinne). She just purchased a little gem 💎 Fiber Stream 1983, we’ve dubbed her “Tumbleweed” and have big plans for renovations and upgrades. We’re completely new to the RV life, ownership and renovating of one, so we’re seatching these forums for ideas, instructions, tutorials etc that’ll help us navigate this project. We’ve posted some pics of our new little “Tumbleweed” Fiber Stream and we’re pretty sure everything is original, unsure of appliances working or not, unsure of overall condition but she seems leak free and solid. Okay, just thought we’d chime in and introduce ourselves. Laters 🤗

Welcome and congratulations!

For a tutorial on pictures and other forum issues, go to the "News and Announcements" section and look for "Forums 101" near the top of the list.

With the summer camping season almost here, my advice would be not to get too deep in renovations for now. Unless you have a lot of experience, major projects always ending up taking far longer (and costing far more) that you could have imagined.

Get it clean, fix any leaks, and make it safe to tow. If something doesn't work, work around it for a while. You can always cook on a butane or electric burner, carry water in jugs, take an ice chest, and use campground facilities until you get everything up to snuff.

If you are going to use any propane appliances, I recommend having the whole system safety tested by a competent gas tech.

Happy camping!

Welcome from Whidbey Island. Consider joining one of the local get togethers. There is one coming up the first weekend in June at Lake Taidnapam and another in September at Dash Point State Park.

As others have said, start slowly and find out what needs to be done, then do any refurbishing based on those items plus how you will use the camper. Hopefully, it's in good shape and you can start to enjoy it once we get past this January weather.

Lots of help and opinions here. You'll have to figure out which is which.

The old Fiber Streams are very nice and well worth refurbiing! Good luck on the project! A covered work area is quite nice, like a carport. That takes pressure off during rain season.

Tumbleweed! Welcome.

Hi.

A trailer even more square than our 73 amerigo. Super! Nice looking inside & out.

That "stuff" on the walls-- is it rubbery (ensolite) or furry? (headliner--"rat fur"--a type of carpet) Both act as insulation.)

Dave Fish mentioned the gathering at Dash Point in September...it's the 2018 SAFE in case you're interested: Seattle Area Fall Gathering. We had some fun last year, two good campfires, a weenie roast, a potluck dinner, open house trailer visits, and a doggy tricks and costumes event. You'd be extremely welcome. Dash Point State Park, September 21st & 22nd. Paul (semi-host) will be there a couple days early in site #34--I think it's 34. Will check and post more about it later as the time approaches.

Love your trailer. Hope one day to see inside.

Happy trails--happy camping--happy fixing up!

BEST
Kai

That's one nice looking trailer. It sure looks to be ion usable shape so you can take your time with refurbing.
Happy camping and I'd sure like to see you down the road some time and see your Fiber Stream.
BTW, how long is it from the front hitch to rear bumper?

You are getting to start from a pretty good point. The carpet is original. I'm ripping it out of ours right now.

The white on the ceiling is vinyl wrapped wood. With too much heat or humidity, this will pull off of the wood. Not pretty. I'm removing it all right now as well.

Take good care to regularly seal at the roof vents and all the screws where they pass into the fiberglass. Also, if the windows have not been re-installed lately, have them removed/reinstalled with fresh putty.

Best of luck!
