We really liked this place. Hope to go again. We would sometimes see car buffs and clubs driving the hilly and curvy roads so it must be a popular drive. We were there during Halloween and they put on a "Trick or Treat" night for not only the kids in camp but from the entire area.

It's not quite as nice as I remember it but a refreshing place to visit.

I think we'll take a regular ride this week around Townsend and scope this out as well as the Whispering River.

Hoping to camp locally (TN) in between our epic FL campouts.

Fall Creek Falls State Park South of Sparta Tennessee. Great hiking trails, swimming, water falls. an inn with great food, and buffet. If you want cheap and off grid; the Tellico river area is so beautiful. It is in the Cherokee National Forest. Take 165 out of Tellico Plains for 4 miles then right on Forest Service rd. 210. There are several campgrounds along that road. Big Oak Cove,Davis Branch, Holly Flatts, Lost Creek (free), North River, Spivey Cove and State line. All have several great sites along trout streams. They all have pit toilets that are kept spotless.(BYOTP) all have fire rings and picnic tables. Also bear proof trash bins. There is also a administration site with drinking water and a dump station. All of these sites are $6.00 to $10.00. Half of that with a senior pass. This area is beautiful and most sites on beautiful trout streams. There is great hiking, a huge water fall and good fishing. You can get a trout stamp at the ranger station shortly after you turn off of 165. Hwy 165 is also called the cherohalla skyway. It runs from Tellico plains for aprox 55 miles to Robbinsville N.C. A lot of it runs along at about 5000 ft elevation. Many pull offs for spectacular views and pictures. A lot of sites are secluded enough to use my generac IQ 2000 quiet generator to run the A C. The nights are usually cool enough that I don't need A C. Have fun.

Been to Fall Creek Falls and Cumberland Mountain State Parks but never camped in them. They are beautiful.

Indian Boundary State Park is lovely too on the Cherohala Skyway. It rained both times we were there tenting. Doesn't have water on the sites but has a spigot here and there to fill water cans.

I doubt if we would ever take our camper on the Tail of the Dragon though. It is so steep and winds. Never went the whole route yet. Would unhitch.

Thinking we could stay at Robbinsville, NC (could get to it via I-40) if we can find a nice campground there.

Both of us need a full hookup since we are aging.
Dump station won't get it for us.

I have no idea if any TN State Parks have full hookups.

Cades Cove Campground, Townsend, TN. Cades Cove Loop is a 22mi blast from the past. You are likely to see lots of wildlife, including bears.

Looks very nice. Never realized there was a campground up there. Go figure haven't lived in Sevier County for over 35 years now. Had to take a bunch of school kids on our bus field trips up to Cades Cove.

It is stunningly beautiful at Cades Cove. A real step back in time!

I worry what happened to the campgrounds up there in the fire.

Hey I said it was high end.

Actually the older we get the more "turn key" we need.
We for sure need full hookups.
Need our own potty now for sure and a very comfortable large bed.
Not every State Parks (for sure not TN) have sewer connections.
Have to agree this isn't exactly camping.
Now we used to camp in a tent and 2 ancient Coleman PopUps.
That was camping!
Any trailer RV not so much.
We are in the lap of luxury compared to the "good ole days."

I've read all your posts but I've got a question. I can see the need for electric hookups for AC or a CPAP but sewer or water with an Oliver shouldn't be a problem. I've gone 5 days with 3 females with one 35 gallon fresh & 20 gallon gray & black water tanks before having to go dump only because we had 2 more days to go at that CG that had no hookups. Living out of a TT is pretty much to minimize all you do at home except a good bed .
