Converter replacement for a 1980 bigfoot

Hello all

I have acquired parallax 6730D and wonder if I should switch out the current 40-year-old converter in my 1980 bigfoot.

Probably worth it, if it's not too much hassle and you already have the new one. The Parallax is a 3-stage converter and the original is probably single-stage. So the Parallax will do a bit better of a job keeping the battery charged and healthy.

Since you already have it, sure. A 40 year old power center is overdue for replacement. They do not get better with age, and the old ones tended to be battery boilers.

If I was shopping for a replacement, I would buy a PD 4135 instead. Its a very good unit, made in USA, and costs about $100 less.

The original power center on my 1977 Trillium had ONE AC breaker and just ONE DC fuse, 72watt total (6A). Not even enough DC to operate the original interior lights!

The PD unit I installed has 30A AC, with 5 circuits, along with 6 DC circuits. I'd consider it overkill for my Trillium. And I have converted the interior lighting to LED, which reduces that load by about 90%.

Of course, I had to change out my main power cord to a 30A cord. While doing that, I went with a surface mount plug in on the side of the trailer, eliminating one mouse entry point.
