Escape 5.0 ta under step storage hinged step holding open

We are looking for the correct gas strut or other device that would hold the indoor step that opens for storage, open. The gas struts we have found so far seem too strong, and we're afraid the connections would fail soon after installation.

I just use the middle step sitting on the lower step to hold it, the same with the upper holding the middle one, and an open drawer to hold the upper. Quite easy actually.

Should that not appeal to you, the ones that are used on the upper cabinet doors world work good.
