Searching for Casita Bunk Bed Mod Ideas

Hi All, I've scoured the search bar and google to no avail. I'm searching for some ideas on how to modify the side dinette of my Casita SD, turning it into a bunkbed. Here on FGRV I'm really only seeing threads on reinforcing bunks in scamps and bolers.

Now, I want to keep the side dinette intact. I'd like to leave minimal trace in case I ever choose to sell my rig. I'd also like to still have the dinette be functional (for kids at least) with the upper bunk set up. I realize this may not be an easy feat.

One idea I have is to notch out the outer corners of the dinette seat to install some 'post hole' type of support structures that come up flush with the dinette seat, and then fabricate a metal bunk frame that can be assembled relatively easy, with the legs being inserted into the post holes. It'd be a project for sure. I saw something done by a family on instagram many months ago, but can't track down that account either..

If anyone knows of a thread or resource to share, I'm interested! TIA!

I did research on this last year. Here’s a link dump from my research. Unfortunately, several of the links are to the casita club website which is no more.

I found some pictures from my research as well. It seems this was for a freedom model vs the spirit but still might invoke some ideas.

Thanks Shocks. That’s a big wooden contraption they built!

I found the Instagram account. It’s @casitalife and they have a bunk mod post back in March 2020. Turns out they, like the pics you shared, also tore out the fiberglass dinette seats after all.

Hmm….

I wish the casita club ones were still around. I remember a few of those where just built in top of the spirit side bed.

Our Bunkbed Mod

We have bunk beds for our side dinette in our Spirit delux. Got the general idea from someone else's post on here but I can't find the original. The guy was Paul, that's all I know. We had our son-in- law, who welded it for us, add a side rail for each bunk since the grandkids are young and could still roll out of bed. Harder to get in and out of, but safer! Attached are pics from Paul's remodel that I saved to guide us. We didn't take many good pics when we were complete, sorry.

Our Bunkbed Mod

This is something Paul wrote that I copied, also for further info. Best of luck to you!

" The uprights are welded of 3/4 X 3/4X 1/8 angle and the crossbar is 1-1/2X1-1/2X1/8 angle. Put the hinge on the bottom so the board has a tendency to stay flat rather than fold. We use a 2" foam padding underneath the bedding. I had a limit on number of pics per post, but will include the rear bunk sometime. They were really a snap to make.
Paul"

Parkliner offered side bunks as an option, which may give you some ideas. I owned one with that option at one time. Attached are some pictures. I don't seem to have any pictures with the side table up. The bunks were 24" wide. The forward end attached to a shelf unit with a piano hinge and was supported on the inside by a webbing strap, I believe.

Impossible, I'd say. There just isn't enough height along the side of the trailer. Just roll back the bedding and let the kiddos sit on the aisle floor with their plates on the lower bunk.
