According to Escape's website the roof AC is not an option but I see one on Rubea II. Did I miss something or did Reace change his design?

I am really impressed with this 5th wheel. Reace has done a good job listening to our suggestions and incorporating most of them in his design. Congratulations!

Ian and Paddy, if you ever decide to travel along the Gulf coast please let us know. We would love to have the opportunity to have a look see. Thanks for sharing with us.

Greetings All:
We met Ian, Paddy & Gypsy yesterday as they were heading through Washington State. Rubea II is great! We want one!!! Here are some additional photos for your pleasure.

Ian and Paddy liked the U shaped seating. We think this configuration might work better for us.

We also liked the modification of the taller counter height here, giving them a taller below the counter closet for hanging clothes.

No home would be complete without a faithful guard dog. Here is Gypsy.

As promised, here are some additional photos from our visit.

This step slides into a square receiver attachment below the door and is more stable than a standard step stool on uneven ground.

This bike receiver was an option Ian and Paddy added for future versitility.

This concludes our photos of the Rubea II. If you have the chance to cross paths with Ian and Paddy, they are very nice people and we truly enjoyed meeting them.

Okay, my turn to add some pictures! Ian apologized for how dirty the outside of the trailer was, but HEY they're traveling in the Pacific NorthWET and right now our roads are covered with extra cinders/gravel due to the past week's snow storm.

Electric jacks! The switches are together inside a hatch (along with the jacks themselves), they can be run up/down independently or as a pair because the switches are together. Right above the hatch door is a bubble level, so one can see immediately if the trailer is level front to back.

All electric/water/tv cable/phone hookups are inside hatches. The electric and water hatches are lockable. hummm missed getting a picture of those two

Nice size pantry. Ian and Paddy reversed the pantry/closet. Wanted the larger of the two for hanging clothes.

The propane tanks are inside the trailer at the front. The only thing in this particular compartment. Dual tanks with auto-switchover.

Here is a decal map of the US/Canada that Ian and Paddy added to the side of the trailer. Bet they've got a whole bunch of the west coast states filled in by time they get home!

Did you happen to check the height of the Door. I wonder if it's a bit higher than the one in my Casita. That has been a prob. spot for me with the Casita. This 5th Wheel surely looks nice. Thanks. Dwain

No Dwain I didn't. But the Escape is more slabsided than a 16' Casita or Scamp and the door is not curved. I have a picture I took yesterday, I'll post it tonight. If I hear from Ian and Paddy, I'll ask if they can measure the door opening.

Thanks, Donna. Appreciated. I have the 17' Casita, and it has the slab door. But you do have to duck (which sometimes I don't do, LOL). dwain

I had emailed Escape on some stuff.. and also asked them who made their awnings.... I would really like to see Scamp go with this type of awning just because it could be a 'one man' operation. I know alot have complained about the case awnings they use...I know I cant set it up alone...

i hope you can see these support rails are curved ...

Dwain,
Don't worry about not ducking sometimes. My Burro door is a killer and after thirty or forty times of wacking your head your brain takes over and automatically makes your head duck when going thru the door.

The learning process is painful though.

The awning is by Carefree, and I bet this particular awning is made specifically for the Escape 5th Wheel. If you see a picture of the entire door side, you'll see where the awning is mounted at an angle, even though when deployed the awning is perfectly straight at the front. This is to keep water from puddling during rain storms.

That is the same make and model of awning I had installed on my Fiber Stream.
That was ingenious to mount it at the roof's natural angle.

In a post labeled Escape Showroom Visit - Body Shell Details in the topic Escape Trailer, Anybody Have One?, there are some photos of the awning mountings of an Escape 17. I'm impressed by how flat and reinforced mounting points are provided for the high-stress attachment points of the awning.

Does the Escape 5.0 have the same sort of mounting provisions?

The curved arms sure are a good idea for our eggs; fortunately, curved-arm awnings are available, perhaps because Airstreams and similar rounded designs have been around for a long time.

I was wondering about the unequal arm lengths, and how the fabric was handled. It looks like the fabric is rectangular, and the arm lengths are worked out well so the fabric it ends up a bit warped, but level on the outside edge and set up to drain rearward.

Well, Ian, Paddy and Gypsy just pulled out of the driveway after a wonderful three-day visit. Here are a couple of photos. While the guys were in the family room jamming, Paddy and I were upstairs in my sewing room making curtains for their new trailer.

What a wonderful couple they are and what a great trailer. (Good job, Reace! ) If they are going to be anywhere near you on their trip to New Mexico, I highly recommend arranging a meeting.

Wow! what a question!! I think the awning is a twisted parallelogram but it works and it means you do not have to worry about the rain running off and you do not have to set your awning at an angle because it is already angled even though it looks straight. Now I have you really confused. Please blame Reace, but it does work and it looks good.

Take care, Ian

Dwain, Ian sent me the answer to your question:
Quote:
The door is 56cm wide and 157cm high!! Now I know you are confused but we are
Canadians and we are metric. IT IS THE LAW in Canada. On a serious note the door is 22" wide and 62" high and we do duck but we don't even think about it.

Thanks, Donna, and Ian too. I find that after I'm out in mine a while, I duck. Then if a time goes by before I use it again, BUMP. LOL Oh well, I can still think!!! Dwain

Yes, Ian provided the answer in Post #2 of Travels with Ian, Paddy & Gypsy with Rubea II; the mounting points (on the outside, anyway) look just like the 17' model. Excellent!

I know I'm answering my own question, and I only occasionally talk to myself.
