17' Burro vs 13' Uhaul, buying decision
Hi everyone,
We are trying to decide between a 13' Uhaul and a 17' Burro. They are both about the same price, $4500. We haven't seen either of them yet in person. I have a couple of pictures, but cannot figure out how to post them. Anyway, I was wondering if you have any advice regarding which would be better. We have a 6-cylinder Izusu Trooper (5000 pound tow weight) and a small dog, and we boondock all the time, never use hookups. We also go up in the mountains a lot, so I was wondering if the heavier Burro would be harder to pull or use a lot more gas.
Thanks very much for any opinions you could offer.

Okay, figured out the pictures (Thanks, Donna!)
I only have one picture of the Burro, not sure what that dark patch is at the front. The UHaul has an air conditioner inserted in the back window that would have to be removed and the window repaired.

I know nothing about either trailer, but the black patch is probably a truck bed liner type material. Used to protect from rock chips.

Your tow vehicle should handle either. I have a 13' UHaul which I like, but would strongly consider a 17" Burro if and when I move up. They have similar construction with the molded inner panels - the UHaul is most similar to the Burro. If this is the wide body Burro, you will have considerably more interior space, which ultimately is what causes people to sell and buy bigger.
If both are in acceptable condition, I think I'd go with the Burro. The black on the front looks like an anti-stone chip coating.

Go for the bigger one. Or someone here will and sooner or later you will regret it. We had a 13' Burro and decided we need more space. Found a bigger Uhaul.

Your tow vehicle can handle either, if they are in otherwise equivalent condition I would get the larger one for more space.

If you do end up with the Uhaul a Scamp rear window can be made to fit easily.

Hi again,
Thanks for the advice! The Burro was in pretty bad shape, so will be going for the Uhaul. It's just so cute!

Sorry to hear the Burro was in bad shape, but the UHaul is a high quality trailer. Post lots of pictures when you get it!

Happy UHaulin!
Ms. Linda,
Congrats! The mpg advantage is fantastic and if you need more room you can always put up a popup.

As a fellow UHaul owner, I like your choice. However, what was in bad shape on the Burro? I'm curious because the outside picture looks nice. I know my wife (CindyL) really like the space in the big Burros, so I wondered what tipped the scale for you.

I shouldn't have said it's in "bad" shape, it just needs more work than the little that we are capable of--we really need something in close to perfect shape. As the seller said, there are some things that need doing on his trailer, and we aren't up to them. I am sure that he will sell his trailer to someone who is more adept at rehabs than we are.

I hope the Uhaul doesn't have all the issues ours had, leaking windows, plus other leaks that I'm still tracking down, inoperative furnace and power converter, rusted and broken body bolts, cracked insulation on the wiring, and some poorly done mods by the previous owner. Overall we like the trailer, but it was a bargain price, and I don't know as if I would buy another, although I am becoming familiar with all the quirks!

I also have a 13' U-haul for sale. But let me say something about the towing. We had a Chev Tracker, 2.0 litter, 4 cylinder and had no problems pulling the 13'. I have also towed it with my Suzuki Samurai, 1.3, 4 cylinder, it towed it but not so great. But your Izusu Trooper should have no problems with either. I've owed a Trooper and a Rodeo and they both tow wonderfully.
