Fantastic vent installation in UHaul CT13
Hey folks!
I'm a new owner of a CT13 since this spring and really love the beast!
We're getting it ready for a month long trip at the end of the month and I really can't stop working on it!
Last night we received a bit of rain and suddenly it started raining from the top vent... The thing is in bad shape, missing some rain guard around it...
So I'm thinking about replacing it with a Fantastic vent... I'm wondering how hard is it to install? Is it a almost-direct bolt on ?
Cheers,
Jonathan

Jonathan, it's not hard and I believe it will fit the same hole, mine did. Make sure your fiberglass is extremely clean, then seal with butyl caulk and if you choose, pro flex around the perimeter.
Welcome to the group! Really nice and helpful people here.

Depending on your trailer, the hardest part is figuring out how to get the power to it.

There may be power up there if you have the swamp cooler that was standard on most CT13 Uhauls. Otherwise run it from the converter in the right rear if it is still there, through the storage area and up through the closet. When I removed the swamp cooler on our '84 CT I found screw holes where some kind of vent had been before the swamp cooler was installed. I bought the Fantastic Fan that is 3 speed, reversible, and has a thermostat. Nice unit. Have you joined the Uhaul facebook group? I installed a new power converter and ran new wiring up to the Fantastic Fan using jacketed wire for a neat installation.

I'd suggest replacing with a MaxxFan Airxcel | Maxxair | Maxxfan
built in rain cover, 14 speeds and a lot nicer than Fantastic. Same size opening, 14x14

I own a Fantastic Fan, I don't plan on buying another. It is not that it doesn't work, but the MaxxFan is a much better idea. It doesn't need a rain sensor, it works fine in the rain.

Hey!
Thanks for the quick reply! I already have a noisy swamp cooler, the thing work well but nobody can't sleep in a 2 miles radius! So I already have power up there...
My big concern was the size of the hole since I don't want a fan that is smaller than the hole (don't want to mess with fiberglass)
Cheers,
Jonathan

recently installed a fantastic fan in our rig. No big deal. came with a compression gasket and just had to butler arround the outside lip and cut the inside trim panel to the correct thickness for my ceiling. Just a note. Fantastic fan makes an insulated cover but it is hard to find when ordering a new unit. Found ours at Boat and RV accessories, best pricing, and in stock.
