Trying to decide on used Escape 17 or Casita 17

I am looking to buy my first molded fiberglass RV and based on my needs and research I am leaning toward either the Escape 17B or Casita SD 17. I have a Hyundai Sante Fe 3.0L/6 cyl. as my tow vehicle.

Any suggestions regarding the Pros & Cons for each are greatly apreciated.

Thanks

My preference would be the Escape. I like the layout, the build quality, and it's lighter, too. Either is probably tending toward the upper limit of what your TV can handle, especially tongue weight. Check your owner's manual and take a look at the downloadable spreadsheet in post #297 here: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...-43010-22.html

Unfortunately, a used Escape 17B is going to be much harder to find, and likely pricier as well. Casita SD17's are very common.

Have to agree with Jon. I have an Escape 17B & have to fight to keep the tongue weight under 350 (the limit on my RAV4). Most of the Casita 17's go well over 350 lbs.

As to the trailer, I love mine.

My vote is for the 17B as well.... assuming you can find one used! For me the inside layout is more functional & it is a bit lighter.

Escape: Casitas are very nice, but the Escapes are even higher quality.

Hummmm, I own an Escape... don't own a Casita, but do own a Scamp. It really is FIRST about what your tug can tow, then budget, then layout. Frankly, I think you'd be happy with either brand... as long as all the three things I mentioned suit YOU.

I agree Donna, I have a Casita and really like it.
Someone with an Escape 17 toured it in the summer and said she much preferred our floor plan.
They are both good trailers.
Also depends if you are buying new or used, best to be a little open for used as they don't last long if they are good, so it is harder if you restrict to one brand.

Let us know what you decide.

Our Casita 17LD, fully loaded and properly balanced, has a tongue weight of just under 275 lbs.

I'd be interested in how you got it that low. If you check the "Trailer Weights in the Real World" spreadsheet, you have the lightest tongue weight of all the listed Casita 17's. They run from a minimum of 300 lbs to a maximum of 680 lbs, with an average of 425 lbs.

That was a typo on my part. It should have said under 295 pounds which is the advertised tongue weight of our trailer. This weight was obtained with a full fresh water tank (in back) and empty black water tank (front) and other items carefully placed inside the trailer. We don't carry a lot of extra items inside. I met another Casita owner on our recent trip and he had full water tanks and said his tongue weight was never over 325-330 lbs.
