Hairline cracks in our U-Haul

Hi there. We purchased a 1985 U-Haul camper last September. It need work on the frame and rather than weld it we decided to have a whole new frame put on. We found a place that enthusiastically said they could do that for us. Well 6 months later they hadn't done a thing to it so we brought it home the other day. My husband and some friends have put their heads (and tools ) together and decided they can put the frame on. We then noticed some hairline cracks about a foot long and a few inches wide on the outside near the door !! Hopefully this is something that can be fixed???

Yes, they can be fixed, but you really don't need to fix them. Those are hairline cracks, sometimes called spider webbing. They are in the gelcoat and are NOT structural. Fixing them and matching the gelcoat perfectly is a lot of work. Have fun.

Brenda,

If you have not joined the Uhaul Facebook page, you may want to join, as you begin on your camper. Lots of help: https://www.facebook.com/groups/UHaulCamper/

Oh I got these all over my trailer. Fiberglass and gel coat moooove and flex and different rates. Could have been a little impact from something, or a weaker/thinner spot when fiberglass gun sprayed over that area. Nothing to worry about, other than cosmetic stuff. It sure isn't structural. Wash and wax her up real good and you're good to go!
