30amp Scamp at 50amp park

We are looking at camping at an RV park that lists a limited number of RV sites with 50amp service. Will this be an issue on with out camper only providing 30amp service? My guess is that we should not plug into 50amp service with 30amp service, but the next question is there an adapter to allow this type of connection?

But most pedestals with a 50 amp receptacle will have a 30 amp also (so you might not need one of these), just not the other way around as often.

EDIT.. no worries at all about hooking up your 30 amp camper to 50 amp service. It will never draw more than 30 of the 50 amps available.

its a low demand item and you will be lucky to find one in stock at Walmart. I did however order one at Walmart online and had it shipped to store for free pickup. Never used it.

Sorry, but we didn't have googly stuff when I was in high school. The internet was still only a dream of some techy geek in 1974. I thought I'd come here and ask the experts instead of Google. I'll check out our local RV supplier and I'll bet they have it since they have almost everything else.

Most RV electrical service pedestal's with a 50 amp receptacle also have a 30 amp and 15 amp so you should not need anything. I do carry a 50 to 30 and a 15 to 30 but almost never need them.

just email or call the park and ask if they have 30 plugs on their pedestal, as a rule if they have 50's , they will have the 30's and 15's as previously stated. however..........
I have seen some Mom and Pop campgrounds where this was not the case.

Once or two I stopped at the campground(s) with 50 amp receptacle only. I carry both 50-to-30 and 20-to-30 adapters and used both.

Check with park manager as to whether that site has the typical 50, 30 and 15 outlets in the box. While that's normally the case, it isn't always. Stating that a particular site is 50 amp often just means it has the capability.

We've rarely run into a park that didn't have multiple amp outlets in the box. If it has 30, we use it, it not? We just run the 15 and stay within that limitation.

I actually have 3 -RV-30 (female) to 15 Amp (male) adapters:
an 'El Cheapo' plug-in that I was given (and only used once, because it forces the RV cord to lay upwards and loop over, if the outlet is properly installed for Canada). The second is a 'Dog-bone', 12" long, that got lost under the truck console for a while, necessitating the purchase of a 'Camco' #55223. The Camco is my preferred, because it's compact, bright yellow to stand out, and I have it marked with my initials in black felt pen.
Generally, I only use an adapter with my generator (15/20A duplex outlet only, Max continuous 2000W/17 Amps) or if I'm parked in front of my garage, not back alongside , where I have an RV-30 outlet.
Oh, I also have a 'Super adapter'. A 50 foot, 12 Ga. extension cord, modified with an RV 30 outlet in a weatherproof box, that I use to place my generator well away from all.

With our small campers, there are times when you will “double-up” in a spot that has 50 & 30 amp outlets and the first one on site has used the 30. No problem, simply use your 50 to 30 amp transition plug. This was the case for me at Bandera Bluebonnet rally. Also at rallies, there are “loner” adapters often available. The adapters are cheap and recommended to have in your regular gear box.

Yeah, then the 50/30 Amp adapter becomes your 'Safety Switch', with its 30 Amp rated internals cutting the power, in the event of a fault.

A 50 amp to 30 amp adaptor does not provide overcurrent or short circuit protection ( As defined by the NEC ) , it is simply an adaptor . If you look up the Camco 30 to 50 amp adaptor you will find that it is UL tested , listed and approved for its intended use / application
UL does not approve wiring devices that are unsafe , a fire hazard, or a code violation .

I carry two adapters with me, the standard 50 to 30 amp. adapter and the standard 12v to 30 amp adapter for when there is no 30 amp or 50 amp available (note this will not run the A/C) this lets you use your 30 amp cord for hookups. Note here, I have never had to use the 12v to 30 amp adapter at a camping ground, only at a friends home where they had no 30 amp service for the trailer. I have had to share a power pole and the first person there will have chosen the 30-50 amp outlet depending on which one he/she needs, so this is where you will need the 50-30 amp adapter in most cases. Also carry a "Y" spliter for the water faucet the same thing can happen there to, just makes everything work for both trailers. I do carry and extra 25 ft. water hose and a 25 ft. 30 amp power cord, situations will come up when these are needed, just part of camping and others being inconsiderate of there use of space at the trailer allotted parking area. This is probably more info then you wanted, but when camping these situations do occur.

I typically buy these adapters on Amazon. Always in stock, always lower priced than Camping World or the local Walmart, have them in one day. I carry a 50 to 30 adapter (yes, I stayed in a private campground that only had 50 amp plug-ins, but that is unusual). I also carry 15 amp to 30 adapter. Just ordered a 30 AMP RV twist lock to 15 amp adapter and a 30 AMP twist to 30 amp cord adapter.
