Scamp Front Bunk Storage Tips

It's springtime, bringing new Scamp owners joining the ranks. Thought I'd re-post two simple tips I learned here several years ago for stowing the Scamp front bunk. It came to mind because I've seen a number of sale ads with the crescent-shaped "banana cushion" perched on top of the backrest, where it interferes with the curtains and invariably falls down.

TIP #1 (banana cushion). When you lower the upper bunk (which you should always do for towing), simply flip the banana cushion on edge behind the backrest. It will compress a little, making a nice, tight fit when you put the bench cushion in place. It's out of the way and gives the backrest a little more angle for comfortable seating.

TIP #2 (posts & safety rail). The posts stow neatly nested together on top of the ledge under the window tucked behind the top of the backrest. My homemade safety rail also fits over the posts with the uprights hanging behind the backrest. All hidden behind the curtains (removed here to get a clear picture).

I don't recall who shared these tips with me as a new Scamp owner, but I appreciated it. They're not in the manual or the online video. The pieces were just lying around when I bought my used Scamp.

Happy camping, all!

Thanks Jon, i was wondering how to store the banana cushion. We just kept in on the couch on our recent trip, but that made sitting not as comfortable as it could be.

Works great except, maybe, if you don't have a screen door frame to keep the bench cushion in place on the door side.

We do have the frame, i was thinking about upgrading to the new style screen, but at a upgrade $260 the old style screen looks better and better every day lol.

The new screen doors are nice, but on the whole I would rather have the old bi-fold, mainly because it is user serviceable using ordinary hardware store parts.
