Repairing holes to the interior of a Scamp

Hey Everybody!!!

We are possibly looking at a 19' 5th wheel Scamp to purchase. One of the reasons is that he is blind and brain-damaged (from an accident....Please Please Please wear helmets!!!) and the person selling this camper has
ammended the inside of his camper with 14 safety hand rails....while I know we can most likely use some of these, I thnk 14 is way too many......so my question is this???
How easy is it to remove a rail and "fix" the hole that will be left?? Can I fill it with something and then buff it smooth?? or what??

Sarah, if you are talking about holes in gelcoat, yes its fairly easy to repair. For example, for screw holes here are options after bevelling the edges of the hole and cleaning with acetone:

1. patch with either thickened polyurethane resin or bondo filler, sand flat, coat with matching gelcoat (can be bought from Scamp) or matching paint

2. patch with Marinetex epoxy patch and sand flat

3. patch with thickened epoxy, sand and coat with matching paint

Just remove the handrails which you don't want and replace the rivets from outside using the same snap caps. Problem solved, and who's going to notice a couple extra snap caps?
The same can apply to the inside where appropriate.

When moving out of apartments, we always used a tube of Pepsodent Toothpaste to cover nail holes. Mmmm... Minty fresh!

Helpful hint: Avoid using the toothpaste with stripes or colored flecks.

Ya know, I'm not sure how it holds up in the rain. Good luck.
