Trailer: 1989 Bigfoot 17 ft and 1989 Li'l Bigfoot 13 ft
Posts: 538
Hi,

I am going to look at a 1995 Bigfoot 17' for sale locally.

What are the major differences I will find when pulling this trailer compared to pulling the 13' Boler?
Note: I pulled the Boler with a 1997 Toyota Rav4 and the potential purchase will be pulled by a 2005 Nissan Frontier. Given the engine differences with the tow vehicles, maybe I won't even notice going up in size? What about manuvering, backing, parking, and overall width of the trailer, how will these play into the mix?

I am wondering if anyone has any idea what a fair price is for a unit like this (not sure of the floor plan yet)?

Thanks!

Lainey:

Having had both a 13' Boler and a 96 17' Bigfoot, the Bigfoot is significantly heavier and more bulk. The Bigfoot will have close to 6 feet of headroom, thus about 8 feet high from the ground to top of roof. It is also 8 feet wide, so much greater frontal area. I weighted my Bigfoot in 'camping mode' (a bit of water, food, camping gear, etc,) and it was about 3,300 lbs on the wheels (I had some extras, such as A/C, 3-12 volt batteries, etc). I towed with my V8 4Runner with 7,000 lbs towing capacity, and I don't know the towing capacity of the Frontier. Not suprising, fuel economy was much better towing the Boler than the Bigfoot

Regarding price, I can't comment.

Hope this helps

The Bigfoot Owners website has a comparable listing. The Canadian and US$ are getting very close to parity these days!

Thanks Bob, that helps. We're in the right ballpark then.

A longer trailer is actually easier to handle in some ways, as it is more stable backing up and it is thus easier to avoid overcontrolling.

Seeing around the big trailer, on the other hand, makes life more difficult when backing up. On the highway, I find the width is not noticeable, except that it causes a lot of air drag (mine is about a foot wider than a 13' Boler, but not quite as wide as recent Bigfoot designs).

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.
