I thought exactly the same thing about the original taillights. I even tried led bulbs but they were not any better. I ended up buying these and they are great:

hey Steve, yes I have looked at those units,, but to me they look so big.
Plus I spent a bit of coin on having trim rings made for the original lenses as shown in this old pic (2004) before I put the decal on.
What I hope to do is find a smaller unit that fits in the lens.

That one has the same footprint as the original taillights. They do have a 4" version as well. Otherwise I would probably add 4 sockets inside the lens ( one centered and 3 surrounding it). The center one would be your running light and the 3 surrounding one's would be the brake and signal. Of course you would be using 1156 style bulbs then and not 1157.

My order of window operators showed up today,, THANKS IAN!!

I got thinking about the taillights and decided to pull off a lens and head down to the local truck shop. The fellows fixed me up in no time!
The light has 22 leds and is a little over 4 inches in dia.
The black donut is the panel installation gasket that just so happens to secure it perfectly in the original lens. So all that's required is to remove the 1157 bulb mount put a hole through the rear for the electrical plug, wire in the new
light and done.
When we got home from SoCal I just backed the trailer into a snow bank out of the way so the install wont be right away.

Nice! Looks like a perfect fit and a lot better than the original 1157.

To follow up on my LED taillight install.
Went very smooth and happy with results.
First pic is 1157s brake and taillight both on,, pretty dismal.
In the second pic I just wiggled off the 1157 mount and cut the wires.
In the third pic I needed to create a hole for the plug housing on the back of the LED. My weapon of choice was a die grinder with a carbide tip.
Last pic is LED brake and taillight both on.
Yes the light would be brighter without the original lens covering it but it's way better than it was and is way brighter than the pic shows.

The Harbor Freight round lights fit right inside of the original Scamp top hat tail lights and I glued them in with a bead of RTV.
Over the license plate I installed some white LEDs inside the clear window .
Brighter than the original and cheap too.
Appealed to my cheap side.

Try a big rig supply store in your area.

On Wednesday we're headed to Penticton for the Beach Cruise. It's an annual car show there with 800 or so entries parked along the beach.
Took the boler out for a scoot with the Comet aas a bit of a shakedown for the car. Travelled a ways up the Creston/Salmo pass and everything stayed together so looking forward to heading out.

Also, see that some of the pics I posted via Postimage have disappeared and since I can't edit those posts I'll post them again with a reference to a post number.

In the pic you can also see the aluminum angle that is mounted to the bottom of the rail, this is for the cover to rest in.

Also reinforced under the door opening by adding a piece of channel iron under the door and tubing up from it at longer angles. I forgot to take before pics but the door hardly moves in the opening regardless if it's on it's wheels or jacks.

Everything down there is covered in fresh black Tremclad paint now!

As for the marine paint job, for the 250 or so dollars I have in it, it is great!
No isn't as good as a spray but auto paint and material would be a G note plus more labour.

I think this is all the photos that were lost when Photoimage went from org to CC.

I cant edit posts that have been replied to so this was the only way I knew to replace them.

Oldest continuous thread EVER?

Nothing useful to add, just wanted to say I'm loving the fact that this thread started in 2012 and it's still going on six years later. Long time to spend fixing a "hole in your Boler"

Amazing, just read through the whole thread again. I wanted an outside baggage hatch, you can get them on Amazon, but hubby says he does not want to cut into the exterior fiberglass, so will be using your drawer idea. I want to keep the bed down full time, so thought of using a bed lift just have to figure out how to mount it as I want to keep the original table underneath. Was originally going to take out the potty centre front, and put in a small dinette, but due to major health issues last year have decided we need to keep it, now to devise a plan, ideas stilll floating around my mind to make a table(s) that we can use sitting on the front couch.
Thank you for sharing your down to earth mods in an easy to understand way. Your unit is awesome with the Comet. We will use a 51 Chevy pickup as our tow vehicle.
