My wandering friend has a highly modified Burro 13 (new, longer C-channel frame with leaf springs, motorcycle rack behind, storage boxes front and rear, more water, solar batteries, etc.) He kept bending axles until he finally put a 5000 lb unit on, and that has not failed for many years now.

Good advice.

The 5200 lb axle is an excellent unit. It uses the same bearings as the 6,000 and 7,000 lb axles, and the 12" brakes. The only difference that I know of between it and the higher rated ones is the axle tube wall thickness.

I installed that Dexter 5200 lb. Axel

Hi,
I installed that 5200 Dexter axel on my 1700.
No issues with height.

My Reno was a complete.frame off reno. There is a lot of talk about the frame being strong enough but that was not the case for our 1700.

I had to strengthen and reinforce the frame.

If you are adding considerable weight I would definitely recommend the 5100 Dexter.

As indicated by others I think the key is your springs so it doesn't hop and bounce your inside around.

You dont want too much travel in the springs so I agree with the others who said get your trailer weighed so you know what you are dealing with.
