Casita Campers

I’ll take that as sarcasm, Byron, since you personally own a 13’ Scamp and have often defended your choice as all the trailer you need. [emoji6]

In this case, the OP is trying to understand the differences between a 16’ and 17’ Casita, and there are many. Some are related to size, but many others are a result of the 17’ being a completely new and more recent design. I understand the frustration of making comparisons because all the photos on the website are of the 17’ model, so it’s hard to compare online.

The differences are best assessed in person, anyway. Casita can arrange a demo by a nearby owner through their referral program. To make it apples-to-apples, ask to view 16’ and 17’ versions of the same model. You might have to drive further to see a late model 16’er.

Clearly “bigger is better” for most recent Casita buyers, but the rule doesn’t apply universally. Scamp still sells more 13’ers than either of their larger models, so you’re in good company, Byron. “Small is smart” works for me, too!

We recently changed from a 17 ft FG trailer to a 21 ft FG trailer and
NO bigger is not always better . Quality does not necessarily go up with size or price .

Red face

i would expect that if/when casita builds that often rumored and denied larger trailer the 16'er just might be discontinued as was the 13'er. if so, then all of our 16' trailers will become "collectable" and much more valuable (*s*) but, i'm not counting on it.

Scamp used the bi-fold screen door for years. Don't know why Casita never figured it out. Just requires a bit of framing.

My 2008 Escape 17B also has a bi-fold screen door.

That’s interesting. Didn’t know Escape ever used that type. Custom built by Escape as OEM, I presume?

I don't know the answer. I'm sure any residential glass shop could make one.

You have a point, but it is obscured by the fact that "would be" Casita 16 buyers often choose the Scamp 16 with a higher interior height and more options.
Scamp and Casita are viewed by most buyers as somewhat more like siblings than competitors so they are cross shopped more often.

One point to remember is that the Casita 17 is heavy and tongue heavy as well. That gives an edge to the Casita 16 over the Casita 17 for those who prefer midsized tow vehicles.
