Scamp door frame

Our 2017 Scamp 16 looks to have acquired a dent at the bottom of the door frame sometime before we bought it last fall. My question regards this piece of metal, as show in the attached photo. Given the angle, it looks like maybe the previous owner drove over a curb or something and caused this. I can’t believe it was installed at this angle. And what purpose does this bit of metal serve? The door itself seems to close and latch correctly.

It's called a bottom door slide and slightly pushes out the bottom of the door as it opens and closes to prevent the door from pinching against the body. IF you need a new one: https://www.scamptrailers.com/produc...m-door-slide-2

Yes, I think the only thing not factory original about it is that sand and rocks have removed the paint and it has started to rust.

Prime it and repaint it. Good as new!

That looks like a good place for rust converter treatment. It is a brushed on runny liquid that turns into a hard black surface ready for paint. If you know some one working on old cars, ask them to brush some on, you do not need much.

If you do the rust converter (Phosphoric Acid) and then use a zinc-based primer before painting it will last a good long time. I did that to some wrought iron railings at the house when I was 16 and it took 20 years of no maintenance before the rust started up again. Preparation is the key.
