U-Haul , where did you get it?
I have called the local U-Haul a couple times in the last 5 ears or so to ask about buying a used camper. I have been told they do not and will not sell thier campers.
OK ok ok , so where do all the used ones here in the classifieds come from? Naturally none are in ME or NH , but never the less how do you get one?
Thanks to All !

As I understand things, the U-Haul campers were built in 1984-85 and were decommissioned in 1992 and sold off. I'm not aware of any still being rented by U-Haul.

Tom,
That is not true, although you are not the first one who has run into that attitude. I know one guy who was accused of having a stolen camper, since "Uhaul would never sell their trailers."
They were sold off in the early '90s, because Uhaul lost money renting them.
So, watch the ads, Craigslist, ebay, uhaulcamper.com, and here, and you should be able to find one for yourself if you want one.

Check ebay, craigslist, and RV classifieds. You just have to get lucky to find one. I found mine in Beaver, PA from a private owner and I saw the add on uhaulcamper.com. About a year ago, a guy on ebay was selling them, he had about 5-6 that he auctioned over a couple of months in varying conditions, most of them were pretty nice. They show up here from time to time as well.

Got mine from a member of this forum, condition as advertised and the price was fair. Had to drive several hundred miles to pick it up, but it was well worth it. Now, almost 30,000 miles later, and having 'toured' many different brands of FG Egg, I'm glad I made the effort to find our UHaul.

Man, some of those seem pretty good but a couple seem like overpriced hack jobs.

Just my 2¢ worth... I assume you know that the 13 ft. U-Haul Campers and the old Burro 13 ft. Campers are virtually identical except for add-on features(?) I looked for both but found an '83 Burro first, so that's what I bought. You might wish to do the same, if you are looking for that construction style, etc.

Froggie and gr8lite,
The Companion is also like the Uhaul. Someone just had or still has one for sale on this forum.

UHaul for Sale
I was driving home from a city near Escanaba Michigan and slammed on the brakes when I saw a 13' Uhaul Camper for sale outside a house in a small town after I took a new route home.
It is sitting outside with a sign that is advertising "Fiberglass Camper" $2200 or best offer.
Great shape on the outside, original vinyl. Ready to camp. Original cushions inside, original fridge and most of interior but a bit beat up.
I have a few people I know looking at it, but if anyone is interested i have the sellers phone number- just didn't want to post it on here.
This post was made yesterday on this forum!
Later, Daman

Did they come with vinyl originally? I thought it was oatmeal colored fabric.

That's what the Referrals forum is all about... trying to match prospective buyers up to trailer members have found!

found my u-haul
I found my u-haul driving home from picking bluberries in mass, you just have to keep your eyes open and look everywhere, it was stuck between two big trailers but my eye caught it as I went by so did a uturn and now its mine. I call it dumb luck 11 as I found a 1946 teardrop on craigs list that I bought for 500 which I call dumb luck 1

There are significant differences - especially frame, suspension and floor. The UHaul is beefed up to withstand renters, who can be very hard on gear they don't own.

Someone told me that they were made to fall to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and survive.

I worked one year for the local U-Haul here, in the late 80's. We had one little U-Haul 13' Egg, and I can't recall it ever being rented out. The store manager did take it on fishing trips a couple times.....
I can see why they made no money on them - we rented the beejeezus out of our big Southwind motorhomes though.

Now you know that's a gross exaggeration, Cindy! However they would be good for going over a waterfall, so if you would like to take yours over Niagra Falls, I'll watch and take pictures!

That's a given, isn't it?

PS And of course we amphibians swim, but I still haven't made my Burro into a "frog egg" quite yet!

Actually, someone put a fiberglass trailer onto a flat boat. A picture is on this forum somewhere.
