Random Burro hole and tire mount question

Hello everyone,

I am currently refinishing a 78 Burro, and I found a random hole. Or what I think is random. In the passenger side storage compartment there is an approximately 1/4 in hole drilled into the floor. Is a random hole as I imagine or does it serve a purpose and deserve not to be filled?

Secondly while I have your attention, the spare tire is mounted directly to the fiberglass. I have included a picture your your enjoyment. Is this normal or done by a previous owner. It appears to be two bolts that share a metal bad beneath the center material. Since we have it apart we are considering moving the spare or mounting it to a bracket, or just leaving it.

Thank you much for your assistance.

The closet floor hole may get have been drilled for drainage if wet things were stored there, like boots. I seem to remember we had a hole there, too, but we sold that trailer eleven years ago. We had the same year trailer as yours.

Our spare tire was mounted like yours and we left it there. If the bumper is strong enough, though, I would now try a bumper mount to avoid wall stress.

I have a 81 Burro. I think the hole is for drainage. Mine didn't have drainage holes in the storage areas. I did have holes to drain the removed icebox.

I had only 1 bolt going through on my trailer. I removed it and filled it before painting. I am going to add a spare tire mount to the frame at a later time (after I replace the axles, which may change my tire size).
