1987 BigFoot 5th wheel renos

We purchased this trailer back in the fall and decided to renovate it in order to have 2 single beds for our teens. (Gauncho bed just was not a solution for a teen boy and girl)

The seller of this trailer was amazing and the condition of the trailer was great for the price. No regrets.

We knew the window seals needed replacing and that the door facade had been damaged from a previous owner to the seller but was kinda repaired to look fine.

We started by gutting the interior to paint walls and upper cabinets. Changed the L shaped kitchen to be smaller and straight. Then came the re sealing of all vents... removal.. cleaning butal tape and putting it all back together. Some vent lids were changed to new due to the cracking of the plastic (age). Adding new led lights and fixtures. As we changed the tires to new trailer tires and rims (Thanks Don!!) We then Click image for larger version

ID:	129728discovered a hiccup. Frame needed repair. So that will be fixed in the next weeks to come. Then as we removed windows to clean up the old butal tape we discovered that the door also was having water leakage issues. So now in search of a new (recycled) door. Window seals were ordered however the company claims shipping will be in 4 weeks. Floors will be done come next weekend. It has been a huge project and if it weren't for our eagerness to attend the Bolerama in July... we may have also had the whole thing repainted but are running out of time.

There has been many hours of elbow grease in this project. Can't wait til it is finished and ready for camping again.

Not many pics.... but a few to give you an idea. Please send us good vibes to not have any other mishaps and have this beauty finished by the time Bolerama comes around. Can't wait to be back in the rallie spirit again.

Looks good! I've been meaning to do some similar stuff to mine, but so far I just reseal windows as I find they're leaking...only one so far. I plan to paint some of my cabinets too. I like wood, but not that much wood! I like how yours is looking.

I know how that stuff goes...if you want it done in time, it'll be done in time.

When we rebuilt ours ('86) the door was water damaged too. Found the correct size door from a slide in pickup camper!
Also all the window seals were in stock at Sunview Industries, the origional window manufacturer.
Best upgrade for us was the MaxFan in the bathroom, we use it all the time! Replaced the escape hatch above the bed too. Both those had been leaking and caused damage inside.
Enjoy your Bigfoot 5th wheel, we have many thousands of miles on ours now, well worth the effort to rebuild!

Sounds like everything we have done as well... except the seals were not in stock at Sunview. waiting for them. The door ... we are trying our best to find one... my husband is even thinking of trying to use a rounded door... cut a bit of the FG to fit it.

Thanks for your ideas.

Wow! You guys are way more brave than we are, but that's awesome! We have the L-shaped kitchen too and I'd love to change it to a straight one. Do you have any pictures of what you did? Do you think it requires someone with a lot of handy skills?

I love the white paint and can't wait to see more pictures of it when it's finished!

Well... mother nature has slowed us down some but as of today we have the 1st coat of primer. Much fiberglass repair and sanding was done previous to painting the primer. Add to that new exterior doors (main and storage) so the holes had to be resized and fiberglassed. We are learning as we go (but a big part of these renos is because my husband just won't do a half job or camoflage anything, very happy he is so motivated) Here are my unprofessional pictures to give you a tease of what is to come. No regrets but we miss camping. 4 weeks of vacation spent at home is a first.Click image for larger version

Wow! I can't tell you how impressed I am!! It might take longer than you planned -- what doesn't? -- but when you're finished, you'll have an amazing trailer. Keep up the good work and your spirits high!

roof hatch

Tina: We've discovered a leak in our roof hatch and will need to replace the assembly this spring. Do you have a part number or recommendation for a replacement hatch? bill
