Surfside Roof Vent Replacement

I am looking to replace the current roof vent on my SurfSide trailer.

The current roof vent is approx 9" x 9". However, with the new vent I am hoping to install something larger.

Would this simply be a matter of enlarging the current vent opening and installing the new roof vent? Or would there be a need install some sort of new 'backing' or 'support' around the new opening to hold the new, larger vent.

Not sure if anyone has done this before. Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Joel, This has been done several times. Some have simply cut the hole larger. Others have used wood to make a frame on the outside. I would use pultruded fibreglass to make a frame on the outside:

If you are currently dealing with some roof sag, then it is possible to use a piece that is incorporated into the frame that spans across the trolly section of the roof, to support the sagging section. I would cut the ends at a 45° angle to help conceal the square tube.
