I am pretty sure the rock guard (RG) is original. It is intended to be mounted on a flat surface. Unfortunately, where the RG hinges are attached to
fiberglass just above the front window, is not flat. The
fiberglass the front window attaches to is flat, however, directly above the window, where the RG attaches, the surface of the
fiberglass begins to round off quickly. This results in the RG hinge being attached to a surface that is not in the same plane as the RG. The plane the RG hinge is attached to is about 10° off vertical. When hanging down in its relaxed position it is several inches from being closed. The RG hinge is one of those cylinder inside of a cylinder things and is not very forgiving when it comes to rotating past either of its range limits. So, when I try to force the RG closed a lot torque is applied to the hinge/fiberglass joint. This just isn't right.
I have looked through most of the RG threads on here and have not seem mention of this. Has anyone else came across this?
