Water pump in 2011 Casita SD
Hello,
I have a 2011 17' Casita Spirit Deluxe.
The original water pump, "Flojet" is no longer being made by that company.
Does anyone know what brand/model of water pump Casita is installing now?

Water pump model
It doesn't matter that you have the same manufacturer. Any 12 volt water pump will work. West Marine , Northern tool and others have them as well as Amazon. Try to match the gallons per minute GPM and PSI from your old pump. It's an easy install.

That makes sense, thank you.

Brand is not important. Quality is. Also make sure they connect the same way. Our Flojet has slide connections on it and is so simple too unhook. We unhook it on the intake side of the pump to winterize it running the anti-freeze into the pump with an extra piece of tubing and connection we put in the bottle and run the pump. The easy slide connections make it a 5 minute process. Just make sure you have enough room for the new pump. Check the filter on your pump to make sure it is not plugged up not allowing your pump to work. It is just a little plastic square thing in front of your pump. If you need a new pump put in a new filter for protection.

I learned about the filter a few years ago when, as you noted, the pump stopped working. It was easy to clean it, but, as if usually the case, the documentation for the pump didn't say a thing about where the filter was or how to access it. I had to go onto Casita Club, a website that is now, sadly, defunct, but I did learn.
The current pump still works, but I'm a 'preventative maintenance' type, always keeping in mind Murphy's law--that being if something can go wrong at the most inconvenient time, it will. Ask me about my septic pump at home a few Christmas Eve's ago :-(

Our original pump is still going strong as it was in 2007 when we bought our Casita. If you want to buy one to carry as an extra do it but I wouldn't install it. I've only had one pump go bad in 40 years of RVing and 14 RVs.

Pump
Thanks, Jann. That's an awful lot of miles under your tires! Thanks for the advice!

A few years ago.....I had a problem with backflow into our water tank when hooked up to city water......after some research.....I determined it was caused by sand or debrie in the water pump check valve......rather than tear the water pump apart.....I simply installed a new check valve in the line coming out of the water pump.....this solved the problem. The new check valve was under $5 at a local boat store and was easy to install.

Right on the money.
You do want to be sure it is a diaphragm type as you can run them dry without burning out the impeller. Also the diaphragm pumps are self priming.

Water Pump
The water pump can not pump air, had to work hard to get the air out of mine this year. Mine is a 2002 Casita 17 ft SD. This has happened several times over the years. If push comes to shove suck on the shower head hose.

Have been using Shurflo & similar pumps since 1984, they will self prime if the head is not too much and if the plumbing is in good condition with no air leaks or restrictions on the suction side. Currently using one that primes itself pulling the air out of a pipe with a 2ft head.
Take the pump head apart and clean the screen inside and generally clean up the pump. Takes about 1/2 hour at a campground picnic table.
