Attached is a photo of one of my door hinges. It is pretty obvious that the screws are not original. The door is leaning like most of these do, however, it is not loose. The door is starting to flex at the crack lines in the
fiberglass (see photo).
Time to redo the door.
I have tried pecking the hinge pins upward, however, they don’t want to budge. I guess if the pins came out the camper would be easy to break into. The only reason I tried is because without the pin remove the screw behind the pinhead cannot come out. Being that these are not the original screws I guess I can’t make a fair assessment of how this works. Out with the screws.
My plan is to:
- Put a layer of fiberglass mesh over all the four connection areas,
- Remove the wood or whatever is in the four cavities behind the hinges,
- Fill the cavities solid with resin,
- Drill all the way through the filled cavities.
- Install hinges with carriage bolts with flattish locknuts.
I would like to use stainless hinges. Has anyone seen these or compatible hinges in stainless?
Does anyone see any problems with my recipe?
