Need to re-seal (original) roof vent in Trillium 1300

I know this topic has been covered before but I cannot find a thread. Please point me in the right direction.

From water found dripping from the ceiling (near the vent) when it rains, I believe our roof vent is leaking. I would like to re-seal it and need some instructions.

How to remove the old vent? How best to clean any old sealant? What kind and size of butyl tape do I need? How to reattach the old vent?

I'm not interested in upgrading to a fantastic fan at this point - just want to ensure the original vent is well sealed.

Thanks for your help and expertise.

I'm handy but I've never dealt with rivets before - sounds like I have to drill them out somehow? And have a supply of rivets and a rivet gun to reinstall the fan once it is re-sealed?

Hi Jane. We recaulked ours in the spring. Got the "how-to's" from an experienced RV tech.
He told us to clean the old caulking area with brake fluid. I know, sounds crazy, but it worked like a charm! Once clean and dry, apply self-leveling caulking to the area. No need to remove the old caulking or fan.

Ours wasn't leaking, it just had a few spots where we had seen some cracks in the old caulk.

Experienced a ton of rain, both while camped as well as while driving in the 7 weeks we were away. Not a drop of water inside.

Worked for us! Good luck.

yes, 'pop rivets' need to be drilled out. and yes, you'll need a supply of aluminum pop rivets in various lenghts.

I would re-seal it with a modern clear urethane sealant, like Proflex RV or Lexel or (many others).
