I think this Trillium was made shortly after the Duo-Therm furnace was no longer allowed to be installed. Where it would have gone seems very unfinished, like they didn’t know what to do.
I have included a picture of the bin that is usually on the side of the lower closet, on other Trillium 4500's.
I plan to install a Duo-Therm furnace and replicate that bin. It's like this trailer has waited 43 years for me to finish it.
Also, when I bought the trailer I saw a classic symptom of front curb side sag, a big tear in the Ensolite in the front upper corner of the door frame.
Since I have been looking for a Trillium to try out my fix for this, I just figured that this was my chance, and the very low cost of the trailer was a function of this problem. After going over the trailer with fine tooth comb, I have found no other indication of sag. The floor is perfectly flat, there isn't a high point on the roof, over the closet. I don’t know what caused the tear, but it’s not sag. I will just fill the rip with paintable calk.
Other projects:
Paint the outside white.
My wife wanted the trailer painted to match our van. The gel coat on my other 4500’s was in such great shape,
painting the trailer seemed to be a violation of the original charm. That is not the case here. The front roadside has been damaged and repaired. It looks like the trailer was jack-knifed and the corner was crushed. While it was repaired and repainted there are still a lot of spider cracks in the gel coat, and the
paint doen't match very well.
There are also other places, mostly on the hinge side of the door, where the trailer was spot repaired and painted. So, White it is. Of course, the belly band will be done before the trailer is painted. The part of the bell band that is on the back of the trailer has come apart. I can put my fingers in the bottom. This is the section that has plywood holding it together. I assume that the plywood has failed.
Convert the freshwater tank into a grey water tank.
I have never used the freshwater tank on any of my Trilliums. After seeing lots of black mold in the water lines, I decided that bottled water was what I would drink. I will also put a deck fitting in the top of the tank, just in case I change my mind and want to sanitize the tank again.
Install a Progressive Dynamics PD4060KV power center.
This will go in the roadside dinette seat, along with an inverter,
solar charge controller and LiFePo batteries. This job will be combined with a complete rewire of the trailer.
Repair the L400 door latch.
The inner handle will not stay centered. If the trailer is locked, it can be very difficult to unlock.
Replicate the spare tire mount that I had on 45-1101043.
Replace the roof vent with a Maxxfan Deluxe.
This will include a pultruded fibreglass frame that should help prevent roof sag, which the current vent, (and housing) have caused.
Install two forklift
propane tanks on the tongue.
Install a propane
generator on the tongue.
Build a fibreglass cover for the items on the tongue.
New
axle
Remove the nearly black window tint on the door window and reset the window seal. It has shrunk and needs to be removed and dipped in boiling water to soften it up.
Fill the door and kitchen back splash with foam.
Put a rock guard on the rear window.
Solar cells on the roof.
Install an
electrical box between the wheel well and the door with connections for exterior speakers and 120 VAC, (from the inverter).
There will probably be more.
